Port Ludlow Artists League presents work by twice named National Newspaper Photographer of the Year, Gary Settle, at the Port Ludlow Bay Club in June.

Settle, who said he has been an eyewitness to social change since he was old enough to hold a camera, began his career taking pictures with a 4x5 Crown Graphic. Today, he takes pictures with a digital Nikon D7000. Despite the technological advances in photography, Gary’s message has always remained the same – to appreciate the power of the lens.

“A camera gives you license to see something up close or even get in the door,” he stated.

Gary’s work, showcasing his 45-year newspaper career, along with several never-before-seen photographs, will be on display at the Port Ludlow Bay Club in June. The Bay Club is located at 120 Spinnaker Place.

The league also presents work by Jeanne Joseph, Port Ludlow Artist League’s artist of the month, and Mara Mauch, jeweler of the month

Joseph studied visual communication in college and in 1980 began her own graphic design and advertising business in Seattle. After retiring and moving to Port Ludlow, she explored acrylics and found a niche market in painted canvas rugs. She also draws with colored pencils, watercolor pencils and graphite, and is inspired by the sea.

Mauch crafts her jewelry from glass. She will be showing two lines of fused glass jewelry. The first line "Views through a Looking Glass" are three dimensional pieces, while the second, "Marine Fow" evokes Pacific Northwest wave patterns.

Mauch’s work is on display at the Port Ludlow Art Gallery while Joseph’s work is on display at the adjacent Port Ludlow Sound Community Bank, located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive.

A reception is set for 4 to 5 p.m. at the bank and 5 to 6 p.m. at the gallery on June 13.
