Newspaper delivering professional quality

A sincere bow of the head to reporter Lily Haight, whose sensitively constructed front-page story, “2 horses dead; driver uninjured,” was deeply moving. Thank you for writing such a touching story about community togetherness and the dedication to life and well-being that make Port Townsend such a remarkable place.

Acknowledgment is also due to publisher Lloyd Mullen, managing editor Brian McLean, copy editor Scott McMahon and everyone in the newsroom who has worked hard to improve the Leader’s quality of writing and reporting. You have come a long way from the time when every present and retired schoolteacher in Jefferson County and beyond cringed on Wednesdays as they gazed upon a host of grammatical errors, typos and non-sequiturs that made them want to hide the paper from their students.

A community like ours, whose diverse population includes an inordinate number of well-educated, informed and open-minded people, expects and deserves the professional-level reporting you are now starting to provide.

May the words continue to flow from your pens and processors.
