The Kiwanis motto is Serving the Children of the World. Most clubs work very hard to make their communities the best they can be, along with focusing on helping their children.
As one might expect, that costs quite a bit of money so clubs also work hard to raise funds that allow them to provide the service.
In Kiwanis, we proudly say we work our service projects, but expenses must be covered as well. The Kiwanis Club of Port Townsend holds several fundraising projects each year, raising more than $55,000. There is one this month that’s been held for 28 years.
These warm summer days remind us that it’s time for the Port Townsend Kiwanis Club’s Annual Classic Car Show – Aug. 25- will be the day.
Cars start lining up on the field at 8 a.m. at Memorial Field in Port Townsend and the gates open to the public at 9 a.m.
Car owners may save time and money by pre-registering for the event.
The Car Show is a major fundraiser for the club’s projects involving youth in the area, from scholarships to sponsoring local youth groups.
The club is very appreciative of everyone who came out to our Tiki Party last month with Freddy Pink.
It was so much fun and we raised a lot of money for our Toys for Tots program and Christmas for Children.
Later this year, I’ll write about all the good that will be done for local children with the proceeds from the Party.

After the car show, the next big club project is Haunt Town, which will again be held at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge the last three weekends of October and, this year, on Halloween. The theme is House of Horror.
This year will also include a Youth Special from 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25 for youth 13 and under for half price with a paid adult. Donations will again be made to local schools for each student who goes through the Haunt.
Volunteers are needed and those interested may contact the Kiwanis Club.

There are always fun things going on with the Port Townsend Kiwanis Club to keep members busy and having loads of fun together! You can certainly join us. There’s definitely of room for more people interested in serving our children and communities.
