Singer-songwriter Micaela Kingslight, a new resident of Port Townsend, brings her “blues-driven acoustic soul folk” to Sirens Pub at 7 p.m., Sunday, March 19.
Originally from Taos, New Mexico, Kingslight moved to the area from Kalamazoo, Michigan, about a year ago, to be closer to her family and look into the music scene, she said.
The town and its people captured her heart.
“It reminds me a lot of my hometown of Taos, with its wealth of music and art, and feels like home” she said.
Kingslight grew up surrounded by music, touring with her musician parents. It was inevitable, she said, that she, too, would follow the strumming and singing path.
“Originally, I started on piano, and worked my way to bass and then to guitar, ukulele, mandolin and Celtic harp,” she said.
Kingslight, who also teaches guitar, has played in and toured with diverse bands, performing music that’s included blues, funk, jazz and hip-hop. For eight years, she toured with her own band, Fly Paper, playing original music at hundreds of venues, from coffee shops to festivals to ski resorts, she said.
“I’ve really been enjoying getting to know all the great local musicians who are quickly becoming friends, exploring all the beautiful places, and playing the local venues and festivals.”
Sirens is located at 823 Water St., Port Townsend. Event has no cover. Donations are welcome. Visit Kingslight’s website at micaelakingslight.bandcamp.com.
