The new Surface Design Association exhibit, “Past and Present Quilts,” features 25 vintage and contemporary quilts. Located at 675 Tyler St. in Port Townsend, the walk-by exhibit of the SDA’s North Olympic Chapter can be viewed through May.
Including art quilts and patchwork, the 25 pieces on display have been created or collected by eight local textile artists.
Some of the pieces date back to the 1940s and the 1950s; some passed down through families and generations; some are hand-stitched and some are made with hand-dyed fabric. The newer pieces feature vivid colors and improvisational designs.
Participating artists and collectors include Port Townsend’s Leslie Dickinson, Sue Gale, Pat Herkal, Debra Olson, and Mary Tyler; Jeri Auty of Port Ludlow; and Sequim’s Linda Carlson and Kathie Cook.
Information on the quilts is posted in the window.
