Sarah Walker has been named Principal of Early Learning and Director of Inclusionary Practices for Chimacum Creek Primary School.
Most recently, Walker has been working as a principal for Bellingham Public Schools.
The newly-titled position at Chimacum Elementary is a combination of a traditional principal with additional responsibilities.
“It’s a function of being a small school district, everyone does a bit of everything,” said Chimacum Schools Superintendent Scott Mauk.
In addition to her formal qualifications, Mauk said Walker’s desire to live on the Olympic Peninsula and her avid interest in the local community were central to the hiring decision.
“I am excited to contribute to the Chimacum community,” said Walker, who is relocating with her young family.
“As avid hikers, bikers, and water sports enthusiasts, we visit the Olympic Peninsula regularly,” she added. “When I saw this position open, I knew I could continue to support early childhood education and inclusion in a location
I love!”
Expanding educational opportunities to include students who are learning English for the first time and those in special education programs is a priority for the district, and a feature of Walker’s career experience.
“She has the right experience to build a culture where all students can learn, not just most,” Mauk said.
Walker is scheduled to start work with the district in July.
