The Mango Mussolini has sullied so much lately, we thought we’d find a few things and people to lift your presumably sagging spirits:
— My neighbor Craig Cannon is a perfect and valuable PT’er. Craig unloads trucks at the Food Bank, cleans the cat cages at the Humane Society, AND helps build houses for Habitat. This town, it is often said, runs on volunteers, and Cannon goes the extra mile.
— The head of our PT Aquatic Coalition, Diane McDade, is another such tireless and dedicated volunteer. She’s filled in this newspaper with all the important details of the new pool to be built in Port Hadlock following the affirmative vote by the County Commissioners. She also put together a survey asking voters what they’d like in the new pool. (My first priority: water!)
— Crusty Crumb has just reopened in a new location, just around the corner from the old one. But it’s much more than a bakery now. Soups and other good things. My wife and I just tried their new focaccia, and man, is it tasty!
— Rachel Maddow is once again on five nights a week at 6 p.m. PST, on MSNBC. She analyzes the treachery going on in D.C. better than anyone in broadcasting. Close second is snarky and experienced Washington insider Lawrence O’Donnell, whose show pulls no punches and follows Rachel weeknights at 7 p.m.
— If you want outright laughs from the Trump misdeeds, tune in Stephanie Miller’s syndicated morning radio show, airing here from 6 to 9 ahem. A good place to stream it live is on Chicago’s WCPT. Many funny comics like John Fugelsang are regulars.
— Still a lovely view here most nights are the sunsets out at Cape George, often just behind Protection Island. Pardon my testosterone poisoning, but when we first moved here and I heard about a place called Protection Island, I conjured up an image of … a giant condom.
— Grandkids? I highly recommend them. We are enjoying our two youngest ones down in Eugene, Oregon. Our two older ones are up in B.C. Sonja, a college student, is now the babysitter for B.C’s premier David Ebey. Nice gig.
— Speaking of Canadiana, if you get it on your cable system, do check out Vancouver CBC affiliate CBUT-TV’s 6:00 newscast. A weeknight glance at our civilized neighbour (Canadian spelling) just to our north.
— If KPTZ is literally sounding better these days, much of the credit goes to Kala Point resident Fred Flanzer, a KPTZ board member and veteran radio pro who builds radio stations around the country and who oversaw the construction of KPTZ’s new transmitter.
— Did I mention we’re probably gonna finally get a new pool to replace the decaying current one at Mountain View School? OK, it’ll be in Port Hadlock, but there’s a bus stop there, too.
— Finally, I love the name that grizzled but still-funny Monty Python alum John Cleese has named his latest comedy tour: “The Last Chance to See Me Before I Die Tour.”
