Jefferson Healthcare has welcomed orthopedic surgeon Edward Eissmann, M.D., FACOS, to Jefferson Healthcare’s Orthopedic Clinic.

Eissmann began seeing patients in early December. He is the second orthopedic surgeon to be hired by Jefferson Healthcare in 2016. A third surgeon is set to join the orthopedic staff in early 2017.

“Jefferson Healthcare has embarked on an innovative joint replacement program which allows us the opportunity to meet the needs of patients who suffer from degenerative joint disease,” said Eissmann. “Using both surgical and conservative approaches, we can now bring modern technology and [surgery] previously available only in large centers, thanks to the leadership role Jefferson Healthcare has taken in the orthopedic field.”

Eissmann is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He graduated from the University of Nevada School of Medicine, where he also completed his internship. He had his fellowship in joint reconstruction arthroplasty at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Inglewood, California. He has performed more than 4,000 knee and hip total joint replacement surgeries, and is one of the few orthopedic surgeons who perform revisions.

During his spare time, Eissmann enjoys woodworking, hiking, boating and fishing, and is looking forward to visiting and learning more about the Port Townsend School of Woodworking as well as the Northwest Maritime Center. His wife finds the climate especially ideal for gardening and outdoor activities. The couple has two college-age sons.

Jefferson Healthcare’s Orthopedic Clinic is on the second floor in the new Emergency & Specialty Services Building, 834 Sheridan St., Port Townsend. An open house to meet all three orthopedic surgeons and the entire orthopedic medical team, as well as to tour the new clinic, is planned for 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26.
