Naval Magazine Indian Island’s security training exercise rescheduled for following week

Department of Defense has instructed personnel to follow coronavirus precautions

Naval Magazine Indian Island’s security training exercise planned for Thursday, April 23, 2020, has been rescheduled for the following Thursday, April 30.

Installation personnel and residents living in the communities surrounding Indian Island might notice increased activity on the water around the installation, as training activities will include harbor security boats on the water, loud sirens and bright blue flashing lights.

Julianne Stanford, public affairs officer for Naval Magazine Indian Island, said that protecting personnel during the coronavirus pandemic is one of the Department of Defense’s top priorities, and she outlined the “prudent measures” Naval Magazine Indian Island is taking to limit COVID-19’s spread, while also ensuring its personnel are trained and ready to fulfill the national defense mission.

To that end, personnel participating in the exercise have been instructed to comply with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Defense by implementing proper physical distancing, when practicable, and by wearing cloth masks.

The Navy conducts these types of security exercises at installations across the world to ensure readiness and verify response procedures, and on behalf of Naval Magazine Indian Island, Stanford thanked the community for its continued support and understanding.
