Musician Kathryn Claire to perform in PT, Coyle

Posted

Vocalist and violinist Kathryn Claire, who performs harmonic folk-pop music, will appear in two upcoming concerts.

The first, “An Evening of Winter Songs,” will begin at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St., in Port Townsend. Tickets are available at https://clairenorthwind.brownpapertickets.com. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Northwind Arts Center.

This program is inspired by the season with music to honor the shortest days and longest nights, a news release stated. Weaving together songs, instrumentals, traditional and original music and a few covers, Claire invites the audience to join in celebration of the season.

“As a performer, I offer the audience an experience,” Claire said. “I share my honest words and songs and also try to share the joy I feel when playing music. I want people to feel as though they have been a part of something.”

The second concert will be at 3 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center as part of the ongoing Concerts in the Woods Series. The center is located at 923 Hazel Point Road in Coyle. Admission to the all-ages show is by donation.

For more information, call organizer Norm Johnson at 360-765-3449 or visit www.coyleconcerts.com.

During the second concert, Claire will be accompanied by pianist-percussionist Don Henson. Henson is featured on Claire’s latest release, “Bones Will Last,” and has toured extensively with her throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Henson works frequently with Will West and Skip vonKuske in Portland, Oregon. His band, Sneakin Out, has performed with Pink Martini, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and at Carnegie Hall. Henson said he is thrilled to be joining Claire on stage.

Returning to Coyle
Claire previously has performed at the community center and said she’s eager to return.

“I love playing in Coyle,” Claire said. “I love the community surrounding this concert series. I am a big fan of Norm Johnson and what he has created with the Concerts in the Woods.”

The community center, operated by Jefferson County Parks and Recreation in collaboration with area residents, is located at the tip of the Toandos Peninsula.

Claire enjoys the rustic setting, which is a different yet pleasing experience from other venues she has performed at around the world.

“I have toured extensively in Europe and Japan and what I always love the most is playing in smaller communities around the world,” she said. “As a musician, you get to be a part of something, and there is a warm reciprocity between the artist and audience. I feel so very much at home.”
