The Olympic Peninsula hums with music this Fourth of July weekend. At Centrum at Fort Worden State Park, the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes is in its 40th year, and out on the Coyle, the Concerts in the Woods program is offering its first-ever outdoor concert. Here are a few upcoming highlights:

Fiddles on the Fourth at Fort Worden

The Festival of American Fiddle Tunes at Centrum has, since its inception in 1977, been one of the largest celebrations of traditional music west of the Mississippi, according to organizers.

Now in its 40th year, the festival is presenting two concerts on July 4. “Fiddles on the Fourth” takes place at 1:30 p.m., followed by “Fiddles and Fireworks” at 7 p.m. Both concerts are at McCurdy Pavilion at Fort Worden. The festival also includes a Square and Cajun Dance taking place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 7 and the Fiddle Tunes Finale at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 8. Centrum is also wrapping up Voice Works this week, with a Honky Tonk Polka Dot Dance at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 30, and “Vintage Vocals: Roots to Jazz to R&B,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 1. There's also a free concert featuring Voice Works singers at noon on Friday, June 30 at the Nora Porter Commons.

Outside big band, square dance on the Coyle

For the first time in its eight-year history, the Concerts in the Woods program is putting on an outdoors event featuring the 14-member Port Angeles big band, The Olympic Express, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 1.

“We are encouraging guests to bring their own lawn chairs or picnic blankets to sit on the grass, as no seating is provided,” said program organizer Norm Johnson, who's hoping for good weather and is excited to hear the band in the outdoor space. The concert is set 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 1.

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, is a community square dance on the grass in front of the picnic shelter, with music provided by a group of musicians from Centrum's 40th Festival of American Fiddle Tunes.

Events take place at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle.

'Red, White, and Bluegrass' at Finnriver

Finnriver Farm and Cidery in Chimacum is hosting a musical “Red, White, and Bluegrass” event that celebrates Independence Day weekend July 1 and 2.

On Saturday, July 1, Seattle-based eco-bluegrass band Million Dollar Nile is playing from 2 to 5 p.m. The band combines catchy hooks, humor, harmony and a passion for environmental issues to create uniquely entertaining music about everything from energy conservation to thinking your phone is ringing in your pocket when it's not, according to organizers.

From 6 to 9 p.m., listen to songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and independent journalist Matt Sircely who's best known for his work as a founding member of Hot Club Sandwich, a Django-inspired ensemble in Seattle, and is a leading acoustic jazz band in the U.S. for more than a decade.

Sunday, July 2, brings the Powell Mountain Bluegrass band lively fiddle tunes, love songs, honky-tonk, mountain ballads and lightning fast breakdowns from 2 to 5 p.m. Finnriver is located at 123 Center Road.

Stars & Stripes Forever at the Pourhouse

Celebrate freedom and dance the night away with DJ Captain Peacock at helm at the Stars & Stripes Forever dance party hosted by the Pourhouse starting at 8 p.m. on Monday, July 3. The Pourhouse is at 2231 Washington St.
