The music is back! Again last week Barry Barnett came over from Port Angeles and brought a talented woman to sing with him at this year’s first Beach Party. The North Bay Lot Owners bring Barry in with a variety of musicians to play tunes from the misguided pasts of Port Ludlow’s mellowed out residents.

Barry seems to know every song recorded from 1950 thru 1975.This first concert drew about 100 of the neighbors from town to the lawn in back of the Beach Club to listen to the music and enjoy a polish sausage or hot dog along with all of the required potato salad, beans, chips, etc.

There were even sailboats and kayaks on the bay to enhance the ambience. The next one is Thursday evening, June 28, at 5 at the same place. Great entertainment and dinner for $5, why wouldn’t you like that deal?

BJ tells me several of the pickle ball players have volunteered to take responsibility for the landscaping in the strip between the upper tennis courts and the pickle ball courts.

Last week was flag day and several flags showed up on that strip of land. Nice work. On the subject of pickle ball, you might note that there are some sizable holes in a couple of the courts.

Apparently the courts were sinking in those spots so the maintenance squad is digging them up looking for dead bodies, rotting trees, underground rivers, gold or a route to China. It turns out the courts seem to not have originally constructed with poor materials such as sand.

There was a nice crowd at the Commons at Fort Worden last week for the annual Hospice Foundation fund raising breakfast. There was an informative presentation on palliative care followed by a moving presentation by LMC Manager Brian Belmont describing the appreciation he had for the help and support provided by the local Hospice organization.

There weren’t many dry eyes in the room as we were reminded of Brian’s wife of 33 years, Patty. Port Ludlow was well represented with a bunch of B’s, Bimas, Brunstads, Berthiaume, (only one), and plenty of other folks in the alphabet.

The 50th anniversary of the Ludlow Maintenance Commission is this month and the celebration is June 30. Be sure to watch out for information on specifics over the next week. You will want to be there if you are a member.

Congratulations to all the members of the class of 2018! With all of the opportunities available to students these days, I am reminded of several motivational and maybe corny inspirations.

John Shedd said, “A ship in a harbor is safe but that is not what a ship is for.” Claude McDonald said, “What isn’t tried definitely won’t work.”

Finally there is the old American proverb, “Success is a ladder that can’t be climbed with your hand in your pocket.”

Love a curmudgeon and have a great week.
