The Blue Heron Middle School team hosted three visiting schools at Port Townsend High School for its only home meet of the season. The Blue Heron wrestlers walked off the mat with 22 wins during the evening.
“All of our kids wrestled hard in front of their friends and family,” said Coach Ryan White.
“Our middle schoolers got a chance to run out ‘under the lights’ for the first time, which is a feature of our HS team. I think it was a thrilling experience for these kids, and we have High School Head Coach Steve Grimm to thank for making that happen,” White said.
All of the wrestlers joined at center mat to give one last cheer of support for one another at the beginning of the event.
“It was wonderful to have the help of these athletes, their families, and the coaches to pull this night off,” he added. “I especially would like to share my appreciation for the high school wrestling team members who came in to help move the mats, set up the event, and run the tables for the nearly four-hour event. Specifically, Logan Massie, Gage Barry, Ike Bankes, Lars Wakefield and Sam Lampert from the boys team, and Savanah Hoffman, Chloe Lampert, Melody Douglas, Lily Delgado, and Mi Amada Lanpear from the girls team.”
