‘Art of Illustration’ at Red Dragonfly

Red Dragonfly Gallery in Port Townsend’s Undertown features the exhibit “The Art of Illustration” in January. The show highlights work from illustrator artists Kira Mardikes, Tim Warden, Inge Vandormael, Gin Grimsdottir and Kelby Russell, some of whom got their start not from fine arts degrees but from working in fields such as graphic design, illustration and tattoo art.Red Dragonfly is located down the stairs at the corner of Water and Taylor streets.

‘I Have a Name’ at Northwind

Northwind Arts Center this month presents “I Have a Name: Identity and Belonging in Small-town America,” a display by local photographer Raymond L. Ketcham.

Over the course of several years, Ketcham spent time at The Boiler Room in Port Townsend, a place that has helped hundreds of Port Townsend residents find support and a sense of community, as well as job training. He got to know and photograph the men and women who gathered and worked there.

Alongside the exhibit, Northwind Arts Center is showcasing the work of collective artists who have participated in Through the Wall, a partnership program between Northwind and The Boiler Room, which share an adjoining wall. Northwind is located at 701 Water St.

‘Winter White,’ watercolors at Gallery 9

Artisan jeweler Roberto Ribeiro and watercolor painter Sandra Smith-Poling are January’s featured artists at Gallery 9, 1012 Water St.

Ribeiro welcomes in another year at Gallery 9 with his new collection, titled “Winter White.” Smith-Poling shares her love of Alaskan culture in recent paintings from her regular working trips. Also featured in this show are scenes of Port Townsend, Germany and Cornwall, England.

Words, memories at museum

The Jefferson Museum of Art & History, 540 Water St., is featuring two shows: “The Printed Word in Port Townsend” and “Quilting Memories.”

“Quilting Memories” features 26 quilts on loan from community members and from the Jefferson County Historical Society collection, dating back as far as the American Civil War. “The Printed Word in Port Townsend: Literary Presses of the 1970s and ’80s explores the world of small presses during the town’s creative renaissance.
