More than half of Jefferson County has already voted

Most of Jefferson County’s registered voters have already filled out — and returned — their ballots for the 2020 General Election.

The number of ballots returned to Jefferson County election workers surpassed the 10,000 mark on Thursday, Oct. 22.

And by Monday, officials with the Jefferson County Elections Division reported that a total of 15,827 ballots had been received.

Of those, a total of 15,742 have been validated for counting on Election Day. That number represents 57 percent of registered voters in the county.

Jefferson County Elections said earlier it had sent out approximately 26,900 ballots to registered voters for the Nov. 3 election.

There are 27,337 registered voters in Jefferson County, though that number will change by Election Day, as residents can register to vote through
Nov. 3.

Last Thursday marked the biggest day so far (through Monday of this week) for the number of ballots received.

Thursday’s ballot totals — 6,829 received — were the highest reported so far in a single day by election workers.

Officials noted that ballots that have not been validated to be counted Nov. 3 have not passed the signature verification process.
