One as from Egypt and one who immigrated from Somalia, both have been in the United States for over 10 years.
They spoke of how the current political situation has caused so much anger and hate toward those who immigrated to America.
They stopped watching the news, too depressing and hateful.
While having dinner in a restaurant in Chicago, our waiter, a young man from Guatemala, left everything, his family, friends, to have a better life, and down the road help his family. His goal was to open up his own store.
In Leeper, Pennsylvania, a very red part of our country, I spoke to a foreman of a paving company. Of course with my own bias, thinking he must be a Republican, I did not want to bring up politics, but he opened the door, stating that he fears of what is happening in America and he is voting for Harris. He also spoke of Biden’s infrastructure funds are his and his co-workers' bread and butter.
I also had a conversation with a man in Springfield, Indiana, another deeply red city. He was the owner of an electric company and he too is voting for Harris.
To sum it up, we all live in a beautiful country — diversity is a strength.
Interesting fact: Voters in 2016, 57 and under 50, only 20% voted, and overall nationally it was 55%. Millennials, it’s your future, It’s time to make change. If you want change, we must all vote, vote, vote!
