Melanie Bakin, 13, rehearses Friday, May 19 in preparation for Ling Hui’s 21st annual dance performance, taking place June 2-3. Bakin has been dancing with Ling Hui for four years. It’s become a way to express herself, she said. She’s looking forward to the second half of the program this year, in which each dance piece flows into the next to create a cohesive piece called “Shooting Stars,” which also is the name of this year’s recital. Bakin plans to continue dancing through high school and possibly in college, where she hopes to study engineering. Photo by Katie Kowalski
