Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship hosts mythologist Michael Meade for an evening of storytelling scheduled for 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2333 San Juan Ave. in Port Townsend.
In an era of increasing anxiety and uncertainty about national and global issues, Michael Meade has found a potent antidote: the stories and songs that have been bringing people together in good times and bad for thousands of years, according to a press release.
Having studied mythology, anthropology and psychology from a young age, Meade has recently turned his keen focus and street-savvy style to exploring the idea of genius.
“In the old way of seeing it, ‘genius’ is not a label for those who have reached a certain level on an IQ test,” he said, “but rather the sense that each soul enters this world gifted in certain ways and distinctly shaped from within.”
Meade is to bring these ideas and more from his new book, “The Genius Myth,” to bear on current events at the community event in Port Townsend. Renowned Buddhist teacher Jack Kornfield calls the book a “strong remedy for hard times.”
