At a new venue, student and adult musicians from the Port Townsend area will perform Sunday May 26 to raise funds for 30 AIDs orphans in Uganda whose education has been sponsored by Grace Lutheran Church. The Port Townsend Steel Band, led by Angie Tabor, will provide pre-concert music beginning at 3:30. Young performers include Tusker Behrenfield, viola,Taylor Montgomery, guitar and vocals, Nadia Fisch, violin, and Madelynn Geelan, William Hiegel, Soare Johnston and Elliott Kithcart, cellists. The concert offers a variety of vocal and instrumental music — a highlight Heitor Villa Lobos’ Bachianas Brasilieras for soprano and cello octet with Emily Riesser, guest soloist, and Maryann Tapiro leading the cello ensemble. Also featured on the program will be selections by Robert Schumann, Leonard Bernstein, Jacques Offenbach, Leo Delibes, Johannes Brahms and Joachim Turina. Concert pianist Lisa Lanza traditionally assembles young musicians and some of their elders on Memorial Day Weekend to perform the benefit concert, and this year First Presbyterian Church has joined the cadre, hosting the event, which has often sold out. The concert will begin on Sunday, May 26 at 4 p.m. Pianists Lisa Lanza, Carol Rich, Emil Atonasov, Jennifer Chung and Mark Johnson, singers Blaine Lewis, Emily Riesser, Linda Bach, Cherry Chenruk-Geelan, Jeni Little and Sarah Gustner, instrumentalists Gwen Franz, Marina (Gittens) Rosenquist, Maryann Tapiro, Matthew Daline, and Don Fristoe. The Grace Lutheran choir members, round out the group of stellar musicians volunteering their talents in support of the orphans. A $15- $20 donation is suggested. Doors open at 3:30. 1st Presbyterian Church is located at 1111 Franklin Street, Port Townsend. For more information call Sharon Dembro, 360-301-2400. email -- sharon.dembro@gmail.com
