Maureen Payne Coe passed away peacefully on Oct. 7, 2021, at Jefferson Healthcare Hospital in Port Townsend, Washington, after a short but valiant battle against glioblastoma. She was surrounded by her five beloved children.

Maureen was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Purley, Surrey, England.

She married Jonathan Coe in 1967, and they lived and raised their family in California, England, and Florida, before settling in Port Townsend in 1995.

She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, nana, and friend to so many and will be greatly missed. She was devoted to family and also loved animals, gardening, and long walks. In her last months and days, she embodied perfectly her most profound lesson: that we cannot rail against life's misfortunes, only meet them with as much strength, bravery, grace, and love as possible.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, as well as her parents and brother.

She is survived by her five children and nine grandchildren, sister, sisters-in-law, nephews and a niece, and their families.

A celebration of life will be held in the Commons event space at Fort Worden State Park from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021. Light refreshments will be served, and the celebration will also be live-streamed. Please RSVP to the family at trevacoe@gmail.com if you wish to attend virtually or in person.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Jefferson Healthcare Foundation or Humane Society of Jefferson County. Please see her full obituary at kosecfh.com.
