Mary “Mare” Charlotte Tietjen moved on unexpectedly Nov. 25, 2024. Beauty, booklover, thinker, musician, artist, sailor, paddler, skier, biker, hiker, gardener, builder, councilor, planner, bridge player, accomplished home chef, and most importantly, master teacher. She was loved by many and respected by all.

Born on July 16, 1947 to Vernon and Millie Wilson, Mare spent her early life in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Upon receiving her PhD in English literature, she emigrated to Montana where she embarked on a successful advertising career. In 2000, she settled in Port Townsend, WA. She contributed to many civic projects through her life, including the expansion of Port Townsend’s Northwind Art to their Water Street location.

She is survived by her partner, Richard Tietjen, and her niece, Lilly Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Wilson.

She leaves behind a massive constellation of friends, relatives, and collaborators who were profoundly enriched by her presence. A small gathering is planned in her honor.
