Units of East Jefferson Fire Rescue responded to a fire engulfing a one-story residence on Heinzinger Road in Nordland at 2:16 p.m. May 19.
Units arrived to find flames consuming the house. No one was home at the time.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished. The home has been rendered uninhabitable due to damage.
The overhaul phase of the incident, during which crews work to ensure no embers or hotspots remain, took several hours due to the intensity of the fire.
Approximately 6,000 gallons of water were delivered by multiple units, and assistance came from Quilcene, Port Ludlow, Discovery Bay, Poulsbo and Naval Magazine Indian Island.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
“The recent rain, together with fire-wise landscaping and the mowed lawn, helped hinder this fire from spreading beyond the home,” EJFR Assistant Chief Ted Krysinski said. “As we move into the dry season, this fire highlights the importance of preparing your home and property to mitigate the risk from fire.”
