Marine Science Center will host socially-distanced shoreline cleanup Saturday

The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will once again be taking part in the International Coastal Cleanup — although with a few measures to keep volunteers apart due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 volunteers are welcomed to gather (while maintaining at least 6 feet of distance) at the center’s museum entrance under the portico to receive instructions on cleanup locations. Trash bags and gloves will be provided.

As part of the Marine Science Center's collaboration with Washington Coast Savers and the International Coastal Cleanup, volunteers will comb the nearby shoreline until 1:30 p.m. picking up trash. Volunteers are asked to wear masks during the cleanup.

Those interested in getting involved in the cleanup can register for the event by visiting www.coastsavers.org. For any other questions, email AmeriCorps volunteer program educator Mandi Johnson at mjohnson@ptmsc.org.
