An elderly man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after he was hurt while walking on a trail by Fort Worden’s Battery Tolles on Friday, July 26.
According to East Jefferson Fire Rescue, two other people who were on the trail saw the man fall and called 911. He was treated at the scene as a medical helicopter landed on the parade ground at the fort, and airlifted at approximately 3:45 p.m.
East Jefferson Fire Chief Brett Black praised the quick action of the passersby.
“With trauma injuries, time to the appropriate hospital is an important factor,” Black said. “The call to 911 enabled us to get on scene quickly and obtain the fastest possible medevac flight to our region’s Level 1 trauma care hospital.”
