Loud sirens shatter our peace and quiet | Letter to the editor

Emergency vehicle sirens are used far too often in Port Townsend, causing auditory blight.

I have spent years in the Boat Haven area, and have to listen to the ambulance or fire engine for minutes while they go downhill to the Safeway intersection, across Kai Tai Lagoon to the Pennysaver/Co-op intersection, or back up to the hospital.

EMTs and police, there is no reason to lower the quality of life for thousands of people affected by daily sirens, unless you want to speed or run a red light. If you plan to run a red light, you only need to run the siren for maybe five seconds before.

Please stop unnecessary noise; don’t be the “Boy who cried Wolf.”
