Both Port Townsend and Chimacum high schools had excellent performances in Richland for the Washington State Knowledge Bowl Tournament XXXIX, with Port Townsend in second and Chimacum in third overall in the 1A division.

Both local high school teams travelled east March 19 to participate in the event.

The Knowledge Bowl is an interdisciplinary quiz bowl-like event where teams of four to six students per participating school compete in rounds of questions to see who score points.

The tournament-style event started off with 15 school teams from the 1A division competing to earn one of the six spots in the semi-finals. Teams from Cascade Christian, Toppenish, LaCenter, Zillah, and eleven other high schools, including Chimacum and Port Townsend, participated in the event. Both Chimacum and Port Townsend high schools made it into the semi-finals, then advanced to the finals for one last matchup between the three best high schools in Washington’s 1A division.

Port Townsend, Cascade Christian, and Chimacum high schools competed against each other, and Cascade Christian finished in first with 13 points, followed by Port Townsend with 12,  winning silver, and Chimacum with nine, winning bronze.
