Local given Petanque Founding Father award

Posted

Robert Force received the Founding Father award during the Port Townsend Petanque Alliance’s 10-year anniversary celebration for his efforts to bring the sport to Port Townsend.

Petanque is a lawn game played on rough ground using steel balls.

Force is credited for bringing the game to Port Townsend and was the key person responsible for getting petanque courts installed at Fort Worden.

He received the award Saturday, Sept. 17 with 40 or so people in attendance for the celebration, which included hours of games and a potluck.

Force loves playing petanque and introducing the sport to new players, as well as helping intermediate and advanced players to improve their game.
