Springtime and warming weather mean it is time to pull out the golf clubs and visit the driving range. Women’s Golf Clubs in the area are now in full swing on their seasons from April through September. Camas Prairie Golf Park and Discovery Bay women’s clubs have had three weeks of both weather and competitions heating up.

The women in both clubs are adding new members to their ranks and planning special events commemorating milestones in 2025. The Camas Prairie Golf Park, a multi-use recreational facility, will be celebrating its 121st year at the monthly first Sunday in the Park on May 4.

At that time the Women’s Club will host a booth providing information about their club activities, membership and weekly tee times. At Discovery Bay Golf Club, the Women’s Club is planning a special May 8 competition in recognition of the 100th year in September to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of Discovery Bay Golf Club, formerly Chevy Chase.

While special attention is focused on these milestones in local golf history, there is still weekly competition on going at both women’s golf clubs. At Discovery Bay, 12 women competed in the game of “Criers and Whiners” in which players can use mulligans (do-overs) to improve their game performance. Each player may take a number of do-over shots equal to half of her HCP.

The resulting winners were 1st place Wanda Synnestvedt with 73; Cindy Breed 2nd place with 77; Sherilyn Ulland 3rd place with 78 and Robin Best 4th place with 80. Across town at Camas Prairie Golf Park, the women’s club played “Putt for Dough” in which the player with the lowest number of putts in the 9-hole round wins. First place with 16 putts was Barb Aldrich; a tie for second place with 17 putts went to Rita Beebe and Jayne Neu, and a tie for third place with 18 regulation putts went to Dee Sweeney and Robin Best.

The women’s clubs weekly tee times are Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for Camas Prairie Golf Park and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. for Discovery Bay.  Discovery Bay will move their tee times to 9 a.m. starting in May.  Contact the Pro Shop at each course for more information,  Camas Prairie at 360-385-4547 and Discovery Bay at 360-385-0704,
