Hi my name is Samantha Stromberg, I’m 16 and I live in Port Townsend. I want to get lights installed at our local skatepark. During COVID the skatepark has been an amazing place for kids to have fun outdoors and learn new skills. It’s a safety hazard to not have lights, especially since it gets dark so fast for a good portion of the year and there are cracks that are hard to see. I’ve been skating at the park for two years almost everyday.
I’ve talked to many local skaters and they all agree that lights would really improve the park. The City recently repainted and replaced some of the fencing around the park and there might be money left over from that project they could use.
I’ve set up a petition and it’s receiving lots of positive reviews.
There aren’t many things for kids to do in this town, but the skatepark is a gem. It’s a beautiful park and it just needs a little extra loving. Skating is a big part of this community.
