The Christmas light displays are multiplying, with Cressy Lane leading the way as all the houses there seem to have some lights on. For the second year in a row, the son and daughter-in-law of neighbors Bob and Sienna Sowatsky have put up a beautiful display. The son is an electrical engineer and appears to be enjoying the exhibition of his talents. Of course, the lights on the trees in the middle of the village have again been sponsored and installed by the Village Council. They look great.

The Port Ludlow Yacht Club held its annual Change of Watch (known affectionately as COW) ceremony last weekend. Anne Burrell-Smith is succeeding Steve Antoine as commodore of arguably the best party group in Port Ludlow. Music for the evening was provided by the Tropics, and they kept us on the dance floor all evening. They claim to play at more yacht clubs than any other band in the state. In addition, the distinct and individual dance style of each person was in evidence and not always pretty. I detected no “Dancing with the Stars” candidates. The introduction of the new officers included BJ as she begins her seventh year as treasurer of the club, boldly claiming this year to be her last.

Now, even more holiday events are stacking up for you. This weekend brings the 30th annual Chimacum Arts and Crafts Fair. The fair, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, always provides lots of opportunity to buy items you may or may not need and gifts for others that they may also need, or maybe not! Santa Claus will be there for photo ops, sponsored by Chimacum High School Interact Club. The club uses any money collected via sales of the pictures to support the International Shelter Box program. Shelter Box provides shelter and supplies to folks all over the world who have been made homeless through natural disaster or conflict.

The South Bay Community Association Holiday Gala takes place this Saturday, but unfortunately, it is already sold out. Music is being provided by Port Ludlow’s own Timbre Tones, which may be why the event sold out. The following Wednesday, Dec. 14, brings the North Bay Holiday Dinner, catered by the Belmont Restaurant. There are piano performances by Kathy Sharp and Mia Torres, and singing by soloist Diana Bond with the Port Ludlow Singers. Your $30 prepaid reservation needs to be paid at the Beach Club no later than this Friday, Dec. 9. The dinner benefits the Tri-Area Food Bank.

Next on your holiday activity calendar is the singing of Christmas carols on Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Beach Club from 2 to 4 p.m. This has turned into an annual, low-stress, fun afternoon of getting in the mood, in the event you have not yet caught the Christmas spirit!

If you are ready for more, the last of the events is Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 24 at the Beach Club. There is a pancake feed, starting at 9 a.m. and finishing with Santa’s arrival at 11. If you take a small, wrapped gift with the name and age of your child or grandchild, Santa will present it to them. It is a great way to again challenge their perception that Santa is not real!

Finally, please note Richard Lamm’s definition that “Christmas is a time when kids tell Santa what they want and adults pay for it. Deficits are when adults tell the government what they want and their kids pay for it.”
