Thank you for taking the time out of your week to become a little more informed about the happenings in Jefferson County. If you’re reading this, chances are you live here or at the very least, know someone who does.

Over the last 129 years, readers have shared their opinions openly with us in our ‘Letters section.’ If you take a peek at last week’s edition, we had two full pages of letters. So many in fact, that we had to hold a few for this week. We print the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly. If you’ve got beef with a neighbor or a business, please give them or the Better Business Bureau a jingle. If things deteriorate into a court battle, we’ll cover it there.

Last week an ugly letter reared its head and made its way onto the page. Because of that, we’re going to be making some changes. Though some of what you’re about to read is not news, it’s worth repeating.

We do not print anonymous letters. They must be signed. We need your address and phone number (they will not be printed) so we can confirm who is writing the letter. We want to be able to get in touch with you in case we have a question or two. If your letter is libelous or scurrilous in nature, it won’t be printed. Please keep your letter as short and concise as possible - those that are fewer than 300 words are better read. We offer a special rate for thank-you notes. Nearing election season, we don’t publish letters about ballot measure and candidates on the Wednesday before the election, because there would be no opportunity for rebuttal. Political letters must be submitted by deadline at least two editions before an election.
