LETTER Thank you Rose, Rocky Friedman

Congratulations and gratitude to Rocky Friedman for making the Rose Theatre more accessible to people with hearing and vision loss. People with hearing loss can see what’s being said and those with vision loss hear descriptions of what happens on screen. Fitting equipment designed for modern theaters was a special challenge at the Rose auditoriums and Starlight Room.

The theater always offered devices to make sounds louder. However, increased loudness may not improve comprehension for people with losses that differ at various pitches.

Louder low frequency sounds tend to drown out the softer consonants that define speech.

Rocky generously addressed this problem some time ago by offering much appreciated open captioned showings mid week afternoons.
