LETTER: Tempest in a teapot, selling to tourists

Posted

When Quimper Mercantile started up I, for one, had little hope of it being successful. Starting a retail business in a tourist town is not the easiest of tasks.

However, time has passed and it has been successful so far. Whoever is doing the buying is a genius. They have carefully added unique merchandise that appeals not only to the tourist walking by the door, but to locals.

It is likely the only store on Water Street that invites locals with a 5 percent discount.

I’m sorry about Sport Townsend, but the simple fact is, in business some survive and some don’t. It’s the nature of business.

As for the rest of Water Street, their collusion on product and price adds little merit to them. But then, they’re selling to tourists – fair game.
