LETTER: Strengthen library Internet connection

Posted

Someone told me that American Internet service is the worst because of the lack of fiber optics. I have since found out the real reason.

After checking several different places in town with Wi-Fi, I realized that the Port Townsend [Public] Library simply does not have a large enough capacity through its Wi-Fi for the amount of people using it.

Then, the only computer they have for downloading material needs a new app. The library has ignored my requests to do something about it for over a month. I don’t understand how a modern library can operate at such a slow speed.

The food co-op’s Wi-Fi is fast enough, but their Wi-Fi signal cuts out every time they turn on the old microwave oven. Then I have to start the download again.

I asked them to fix it, but still no action on that because they don’t understand that a microwave oven signal noise goes through walls.

I have not checked every place in town with Wi-Fi, but have found only one that I can download audiobooks fast enough so far.
