Letter: Story on antiques includes closed businesses

Posted
During this busy time of the year, few things are less festive than writing a letter to our local newspaper because of counterproductive reporting. We used to own an antiques shop downtown which closed six years ago. A few years later, we opened a shop uptown, and that shop was closed when I retired last year. But we still supported The Leader with our advertising dollars. Every single month for a year I visited The Leader to pay for ads in support of the hardworking folks who have an antiques business in Quilcene. You might recall when The Leader’s annual Getaway supplement was published this summer, many readers were disappointed when your newsroom ended their actual location descriptions with “Port Townsend” and completely overlooked Quilcene. So the display ad in that supplement was almost all there was to promote Quilcene for visitors and many readers. When we received our most recent issue of The Leader, we were at first pleased that your reporter wrote a story about local antique stores. You might imagine how surprised we were to find our two closed businesses actively included and listed in your issue. Equally unfortunate, there was no mention of the shop in Quilcene.
