LETTER: Safe, finally, in Jefferson County

Posted

We want to express our thanks to prosecutor Amanda Wilson for the outstanding job she did for us in finally being the one to successfully prosecute a man who has made us his victim over many years.

Wilson deserves applause for the excellent way she handled this case. In addition, advocate Mary Schoenfelder was there for us every step of the way during a difficult time.

We can’t thank them enough for their efforts and the wonderful job they did for us.

Jefferson County was the very first county to take our case seriously when this man violated our protection order in January 2016. We had just moved to this county at the time, and have had the same harassment and stalking with the defendant over a five-year period in both Pierce and Kitsap counties.

Nothing was ever done in the past to protect us when he violated protection orders. But not this time.

Deputy Charles McCarty took our report seriously, and started the ball rolling to finally protect us. Others in the sheriff’s department also aided in investigations and helped this be brought to justice.

Even though it may have looked like a difficult case, Ms. Wilson took it head on, believing in getting justice for us. Her diligence in presenting our case resulted in a unanimous jury convicting the defendant on not one, but two counts.

Judge Jill Landes gave him a sentencing that was just.

We just want to acknowledge the outstanding job of the prosecutor’s office, Amanda Wilson, the sheriff’s department and all involved.

We are now safe due to their diligence. Our sincere gratitude for helping to keep us safe.
