LETTER: Riding the bus with gratitude

Posted

Some lessons I’ve learned riding the bus:

Patience – that is a real gift for me to try to have, to wait as the bus driver lets passengers get off at their stop.

To smile more, so perhaps someone else will catch that silent laughter we all share when things are difficult.

To listen when someone has something important to share, a road closing, a dog that needs attention, a person who is hungry and needs food, an accident, a birthday of a child.

When I use my bus pass, I realize I am one less car and in some small way I am reducing the carbon footprint.

And like all small things we do, things do matter, and choices that we make can change the shape of things.

The final lesson I have gleaned over the years is that each bus driver deserves respect and gratitude for safely driving his or her route each day, helping each of us passengers to reach our destination for food, friends and comfort.
