I concur with the letter of Aug. 8 regarding the massive increase of traffic into Fort Worden State Park every summer. However, I would like to correct the authors about two things. First, the designated route for RVs and campers going into the fort is actually Redwood Street, which branches off of Cherry and avoids the big hill. Second, visitors to the park are not bypassing Cherry Street. We are seeing more and more traffic every year on our road. Many of them are speeding.

Campers and RVs race past my house on Cherry Street, ignoring the posted signs directing them onto Redwood. The signage should be improved at the intersection of Cherry and Redwood streets. I recommend “Local traffic only” and “No RVs” at the foot of the Cherry Street hill where Redwood branches off. Similar signage is appropriate where Cherry Street enters park property to deter huge vehicles from going up the big hill. Also, speed-limit signs on the Cherry Street hill are needed, as are speed bumps.

Another big help would be to open up other entrances to the park, sending some traffic onto side streets.
