“Point Hudson: Lease explored” (The Leader, July 26) couldn’t come at a better time. The diverse property/facilities contained there, along with our dual constituency of seasonal visitors and full-timers – and, of course, our animal brethren – begs a thoughtful consideration.

Although the “parking lot” of mobile homes discussion has already been tossed about as the most obvious symbol of commercialization, the rarely mentioned habitat of the spit itself should be included. Flocks of black brant geese aggregate there before their April/May migration to the far north. The breadth of life visiting the view from Point Hudson identifies preferred habitat, a quality often erased by “market-distracted” administrators.

Give common sense a chance. “Eco-tourism” without the overpriced hocus-pocus will do nicely. The little marina could be almost anything. Northwest Maritime Center would make an excellent manager and steward for the Point Hudson complex.
