What is the problem with drivers in Port Townsend? I’m not saying that they are bad drivers. I’m saying that they don’t understand the speed limit.

This is a very general statement, but driving to school from Port Hadlock at 35 miles per hour isn’t my favorite thing in this world.

The speed limit on State Route 20 is 50 mph. Is it really that hard to do an extra 15 mph? Honestly, most people have places to go.

If you are too scared to drive the speed limit, in my opinion, you shouldn’t be on the road. If you have five cars behind you and you’re going under the speed limit, you need to pull over and let them pass. That is the law. I’m 18 years old. I have had my license for two years now, so my knowledge of the laws of the road are fresh. I just want to get to school in a timely manner.

I can’t afford being late because one car is going 35 mph and holding up all the traffic behind it. I’ve never been pulled over, but I do not want to risk it just to get to school on time.

It already takes me 20 minutes to get to school.

Please, for everyone’s sake, speed up to 50 mph and stay there.

Also, in downtown Port Townsend, the speed limit is 20 mph. Do not jump out in front of my car from between two parked cars and jaywalk across the street and tell me to slow down when I’m going 20 mph. Tourist season is the worst, because being a working citizen within this economy is hard when you can’t drive downtown without being yelled at by jaywalkers.

So, please drive faster. Thank you.
