I am so tired of seeing and picking up litter along the public trails and roadsides, especially plastics.
I especially don’t understand people who bag their dog’s waste and throw the bag on the ground.
I feel the majority is left by the homeless and children who don’t know any better. We live in one of the most beautiful places in America.
I would like to propose some solutions:
Waste bins placed along the most highly traveled trails; ban the small plastic bags that are given with purchases of beverages and meats and clamshells that package food; the City of Port Townsend conduct a public service with posters and radio and TV announcements highlighting the reasons not to litter and to recycle as much as possible; schools teach a civic duty to students about not littering; restaurants and grocery stores police the area around their businesses and allow employees one half an hour of paid leave to remove litter.
And finally, when you are out walking, take a bag along to help collect litter.
Let’s make Port Townsend a beautiful place to enjoy.
