Letter: Own up to the Make Waves location

Posted

Scott Wilson has freely used his influential editorials for more than a year now to promote the Make Waves cause.

However, his recent fundraising pitch (Jan. 20) contained a serious error of geography that incorrectly minimized the actual impacts of their mega facility on Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park.

He wrote: “… the aquatic center and recreation facility being discussed for placement near Kah Tai Lagoon Park."

Near?

Of course it is not “near” the park.

In fact, the Make Waves facility is proposed to be built entirely within the park.

Their 40,000-square-foot building would destroy the important habitat buffer adjacent to the noisy park-and-ride, remove the public bathroom, and destroy a large portion of the play meadow next to the inner lagoon.

There would be enormous impacts from this looming intrusion on the ecological functioning of the nature park and its peaceful enjoyment by humans.

Potential donors reading the editorial should at least have been told the truth about where it is going to be built.

Own up, Scott, and fix your misleading mistake.
