I’m very disappointed that your publication saw fit to publish the letter “It’s a flu-shot epidemic spreading,” advocating that flu shots cause the flu.
While I always look forward to seeing all points of view expressed, there are times when it is journalistic responsibility to seek a balance where endangerment of public health is at issue.
Drawing conclusions from unsubstantiated anecdotal situations that fly in the face of verified medical research is fine until it influences others by way of a publication such as yours to do something that can endanger their health. I ask that The Leader provide some balance on this issue by soliciting opposing views from our healthcare community.
Ignorance can kill.
The letter writer might want to share her theories with someone who has lost a loved one to the flu, whooping cough or polio.

Editor’s note: The Leader ran a news article on the flu on page A4 of the Jan. 25 edition, which quoted Dr. Joe Mattern, chief medical officer of Jefferson Healthcare, and Dr. Tom Locke, health officer for Jefferson and Clallam counties. Both urged the public to get immunized.
