LETTER: Chautauqua shows dedicated to cofounder

The New Old Time Chautauqua holiday shows on Dec. 10 and 11 were dedicated to our dear Sam Williams (aka Smerdykov Karamazov, aka Samwise), who exited this reality on Nov.17, 2016. He was a member of the Flying Karamazov Brothers, a Chautauqua cofounder and all-around wonderful human.

Port Townsend has always been a special place to us. We’ve staged numerous shows and events here.

The Palindrome and Arcadia will always be our ancestral home because of the many Chautauqua celebrations of the heart – three weddings, a croning ceremony for Faith Petric and Rebo’s Celebration of Life.

The best way we know how to process the loss of our beloved Sam is to celebrate him with laughter, music, stories and vaudeville antics. I could almost hear him chuckling.

As a Chautauqua member, here’s a big thank-you to everyone who came to the shows, donated goods and services, and supported our programs and projects throughout the years.
