Letter: Characterizing fascism

This letter is a reply to the February 20 letter claiming that it is ludicrous to call the current administration and its facilitators fascist. Please come to your own conclusion after reading the 14 characteristics of fascism as compiled by Lawrence Britt: powerful and continuing nationalism, disdain for the recognition of human rights, identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause, supremacy of the military, rampant sexism, controlled mass media, obsession with national security, religion and government are intertwined, corporate power is protected, labor power is suppressed, disdain for intellectuals and the arts, obsession with crime and punishment, rampant cronyism and corruption, and fraudulent elections. This is serious stuff. History is both a lesson in how quickly progress can be undone and a warning that our ideals must be jealousy defended. Please be a discerning citizen and don’t get your “news” from only one source. Now is time for all good people to come to the aid of their country. Jackie Aase Port Townsend
