LETTER: Angels in PT came to the rescue

Posted

As parents of an adult with developmental delays, we were worried as to what would happen to our son once we were gone.

Chris Chambers, our son, had his bike stolen from his workplace recently. It was his only means of transportation.

The Leader wrote a story about Chris’ bike, and the people in Port Townsend cared and came forward to help him.

There are many heroes in our town. Several people offered to donate their bikes to him. The folks at the Bayview started a fund, and it grew and grew.

His sister, Elizabeth, who lives in Aurora, Colorado, started a Go Fund Me account. Many local donors contributed. As a result, she was able to send a check covering the cost of a new bike to Bob at PT Cyclery.

An anonymous angel in town, not knowing about the Go Fund Me account, walked into Broken Spoke and purchased a bike and left money for accessories. We asked them to credit this person, as Chris had already picked out a bike at PT Cyclery.

Chris now has a bright orange bike that he loves and rides around town. A sizable amount of money that was above and beyond the cost of a new bike was donated to Olympic Neighbors in Port Townsend.

Many thanks to all for these acts of kindness.

We know now that we selected the best city in America to move to 20 years ago, and that Chris will always be watched over by the angels of Port Townsend.
