GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Leianna Mullen has changed her address to Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior. Leianna passed on September 14, 2019 at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. She was born August 31, 1950 at St. John’s Hospital in Pt. Townsend, Washington where she lived her entire life. Leianna was fondly known to her family and friends as “Annie” or “Aunt Annie.” Annie is survived by five sisters. They are Polly Rogers, Arlis Ann Whittington, Jo (Dan) Thomas, CJ (Leon) DeWitt, and Pernel Chapman. A brother-in-law Paul Newcomb, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

While Annie had no children of her own, she spent years helping raise her nieces and nephews (Bret, Kelly, Nel, Char, Chad, Robert, Jordon, Phil, and Amanda). Each one of them was special to her in their own way. Annie was our “Go-to Girl.” She was always there when we needed her to watch our babies. Her answer was given with a smile and “sure, yes, of course I will!”

We want to thank all of Annie’s caregivers she had over the past several years for the loving and gentle care given to Annie. There was one caregiver who became more like a sister to Annie and went beyond the call of duty in her care for Annie – thank you Ruby for your special love and care to our Annie. You see, caregivers are like Angels without wings.

The things all of us will surely miss are that twinkle in her eyes, her warm hugs, her unconditional love, her kind words of assurance and her generous giving heart. Annie would surely want us to pay it forward and pass on those qualities she shared with us. Annie loved family, children, friends, dogs, a cat named “Zoe,” playing Mahjong on her tablet and yes! Even Baseball & Football.

Our family gathered on September 22, 2019 to share a meal and memories of Annie. At her request there was no funeral. Annie was preceded in death by her parents Carl & Pearl Mullen, our sisters Carla Newcomb, Pearl Boad and a precious great-niece Freya Melody Garden. Also preceding were brothers Gerald Humble, Fred Humble, Lee Mullen, Charles Mullen, and Carl Mullen Jr. Two brothers-in-law that preceded Annie in death and were very special to her were Norm Rogers and Bob Whittington. It was Annie’s wishes that any remembrances of her be sent to the Local Homeless Shelter or The American Heart Association.

One day we will see you on The Other Side, Annie. In the meantime – smell the flowers run and play and oh yes – play some more Mahjong. Say hi to Mom, Carla and all the others enjoying life on The Other Side. Until then — we miss you Annie.
