Even with social distancing in effect, Memorial Day will continue to be “a day on, not a day off” for local veterans.

Members of the Marvin G. Shields Memorial Post 26 of the American Legion in Port Townsend will be joined by representatives of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 317 in conducting a wreath-laying ceremony at Fort Worden Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 25.

Those taking part will also perform a rifle salute and play “Taps.”

Post 26’s Robert Saring assured the public that all involved would wear masks and maintain a minimum six-foot distance from each other.
