Kul Kah Han Native Plant Garden, also known as the Native Plant Garden in Chimacum’s HJ Carroll Park, won’t be able to carry on its 20-year legacy without help. Designer and initiator Linda Landkammer is juggling health issues with PR and gardening, and it’s all become too much.

In November, the garden will need a new manager.

“The bottom line is that during July/August 2021 we … raised $3,000,” Landkammer said, and the nonprofit needs to match that before November in order to purchase basic supplies and update some new management of the garden.

Revenue is down for the nonprofit, as the native plant sales they depend on annually have been a no-go due to COVID.

The native plant garden is unknown even to many locals and it will take community involvement in order for it to not revert to nature, Landkammer said.

In addition to a garden manager, who will receive a stipend, the nonprofit is seeking a board development officer. Positions will open in November, one of the busiest times of year for the garden; volunteers will be picking up 250 new native plants from Bellingham, and tucking them each into their new ecosystems with care.
