KPTZ presents 2 Beatles tribute concerts

KPTZ-FM celebrates the music of The Beatles in two fundraising tribute concerts this Saturday and Sunday at the Wheeler Theater at Fort Worden. All proceeds help to support the station and sustain its operations.

The shows feature interpretations of 29 Beatles songs, chosen from all periods of the band’s career, and performed by local musicians and special guests.

“It’s been a real kick to dig deeper into these tunes and see what makes them tick,” said musical director Paul Rogers who, as pianist and arranger, said he has gained a keen appreciation for the special and enduring quality of the Beatles’ repertoire.

“We want to bring together all the people who support us and have some great fun,” said concert producer Tim Quackenbush.

The event includes a reception at Taps at The Guardhouse Bistro before each show, and pre-concert photo ops, Quackenbush said.

Produced by KPTZ staff and volunteers, this year’s events follow the success of last year’s sold-out Joni Mitchell tribute concert. Concerts are at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 6 and 2 p.m., Sunday, May 7 at Wheeler Theater at Fort Worden.
